NFL Week 1 Fantasy Surprises | Jamaal Williams 25 Point Performance

Jamaal Williams Fantasy Value was always a question mark when he wore green and gold and played behind Aaron Jones. Things didn’t become much clearer after his signing with the Lions, where the younger, higher draft pick D’Andre Swift was already establishing himself as the top guy. They also share a similar, utility back type of style to their game.

Williams, who was projected just eight fantasy points on Sunday, was an intricate part of the extremely improbable comeback the Lions nearly pulled off. His contributions came in the form of eight receptions, 110 all purpose yards, and a rushing TD.

Though it is unlikely the Detroit RB duo will put up a combined 50 points again this season, this performance shows owners that Williams can be more than just a season long bench guy, only to be brought out when you’re plagued by bye weeks.

As a pass catching running back who can also run people over up the gut, there is no better QB to be playing with than Jared Goff. We’ve seen a host of running backs perform well playing along side him, and with the lack of pass catchers and receiving talent in Detroit, both Williams and Swift should get more than their fill of offensive opportunities.

Williams should be a very strong FLEX candidate while we wait and see how the Lions next few games pan out.
